Mommy, I'm "Sree"!

Derrick is fascinated with gum.  He's always asking to touch it when he notices that I'm chewing it. {Gross, I know.} When he first started asking for it I told him that he could have gum when he turns three.  Now every time he sees gum in my mouth he says, "Derrick can have gum when I am sree!"

Tonight he crawled up in my lap, got really close to my face, and said, "Mommy, I'm 'sree!  Yes, Mommy, I am!"

How can you argue with that?  He seemed so sure of himself!

He's a master at chewing food and never swallowing, so I figured, what the heck?!  I gave him a little piece.

The boy was so, so excited!

He just chewed and chewed.  Mouth wide open.  Smile plastered on his face.

When it was time to go to bed Justin took him in the kitchen to spit out his gum.  He opened the trash can but no gum came out.   "It's not in my mouth," is all he would say.  Finally, after asking several times if he swallowed his gum he proudly said, "Yes, I did swallow it!"

Shucks!  And I thought we just might get to break the "sree" rule.
